Abstract Text

High-quality imaging is the basis for modern treatment planning in radiation oncology.

MR imaging has emerged as the key modality in the diagnosis and staging for many malignancies like rectal or prostate cancer. Due to its superior soft tissue contrast it is ideally suited for local tumor staging and re-staging, including the assessment of invasion of adjacent organs as well as lymph node staging.

Several factors have to be taken into account in order to achieve excellent MR imaging quality, including patient preparation, ongoing teaching for doctors and technicians and optimization of imaging protocols.

The aim of this lecture is to give an overview on how to perform and interpret modern MR imaging.
