Image-guided radiotherapy has improved precision of irradiation by ensuring accurate positioning of the target volume at the start of each radiotherapy treatment fraction. The next step is to deal with the target motion that occurs during a treatment fraction. In this symposium two speakers will describe techniques based on X-ray imaging technology and non-radiographic imaging modalities that provide real-time feadback about the patient. The third presentation will discuss the impact that these methods have on treatment margins and expand the existing theoretical framework for margins to on-line adaptive radiotherapy.
