Endorsed by ESTRO
The Assisi think-tank meeting (ATTM) on breast cancer, which is endorsed by ESTRO, the European Society of Breast Cancer Specialists, and the Italian Association of Radiotherapy and Clinical Oncology, has grown in popularity and prestige since its first edition in 2016.
The 6th ATTM will be held on 5-7 February 2026. Designed as a brainstorming project, it involves European radiation and clinical oncologists, as well as others who are actively involved in the field of breast cancer, to provide thorough insights into selected topics via presentations and in-depth discussions. The format is blended to facilitate both in-person and online participation.
As ever, the chosen topics relate to contemporary challenges in breast cancer care. The expert board this time has selected:
1) regional radiotherapy after primary systemic therapy in cN+ ypN0/N+ patients
2) de novo oligometastatic breast cancer:
2a. treatment of metastases
2b. treatment of loco-regional disease
3) radiation therapy + new drugs:
3a. prevention of toxicity related to radiotherapy + new drugs
3b. toxicity related to radiotherapy + new drugs: treatment and follow-up
Working groups for each of these three topics are reviewing the available data and ongoing studies, partly to identify areas of contention. Soon, before the meeting, current clinical practices in these fields will be investigated through an online questionnaire, which will be made available again during the meeting so that attendees can share their experiences and views with all participants. Based on the results of the questionnaire and the in-depth discussions during the meeting, suggestions for future studies that will elucidate the identified issues will be proposed.
As has happened after previous editions, the panel of experts will prepare and submit for publication informative and challenging papers that summarise the findings and discussions, as well as ongoing clinical trials, with several proposed investigations to be performed.
