Image guidance in radiotherapy: Should we break bonds with daily kV imaging?
Ghizela Ana Maria Salagean, Romania;
Jordi Saez, Spain
Image-Guided Radiotherapy (IGRT) is crucial in modern radiotherapy, but kV imaging requires thorough justification and optimization, following the principles outlined in the Basic Safety Standards Directive (BSSD2013/59). To that aim, problems and challenges must be addressed to maximize the benefits of kV-based IGRT procedures while minimizing associated risks. In this session, these challenges will be described, as well as the modelling of kV and MV IGRT systems. Different strategies for the justification and optimisation of imaging procedures will be presented, including adaptive radiotherapy strategies, and clinical applications will be discussed.
