ESTRO 2022 presidential and board elections – a word from the president - PDF Version
Dear colleagues and friends,
This year is a very important one for our Society. With the 2022 congress of the European SocieTy for Radiotherapy and Oncology (ESTRO) around the corner, we are looking forward to another excellent chance to meet one another and further our practice with the latest scientific content. The conference theme is “Learning from every patient”; from the individual patient to those involved in randomised trials and in large patient cohorts. The congress will take place both onsite in Copenhagen and online, to allow everyone to attend in the way that is most convenient for them.
Additionally, this year marks the reignition of the governance review, which came to a halt in 2020 due to the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic. Building on the feedback collected in the community survey, we aim to put transparency, openness, inclusivity and accessibility at the core of this process.
In this vein, I would like to draw your attention to a very important moment for our Society. In 2022, ESTRO will name a new president-elect and two new board members. The appointment of a president-elect is crucial to continue the development of the Society and to build on its strategy.
This year will also see the end of the six-year presidency of Umberto Ricardi, who will soon finish his mandate as past-president. I would like to thank Professor Ricardi for his outstanding service to ESTRO, which he has carried out with great passion and dedication. I am grateful to him for infusing the Society with vision and purpose, but also for the friendship he has shown to all of us.
The candidates for the 2022 election are:
- Matthias Guckenberger and Yavuz Anacak for the role of president-elect;
- Nuria Jornet Sala and Stine Korreman for a medical physics seat on the board; and
- Kerstin Borgmann and Jan Bussink for a radiobiology seat on the board.
We welcome their participation, and we await the result of the election with interest. You can gain more information about the candidates on the ESTRO election webpage.
The ballot will run from 21 February until 14 March 2022. Do not forget to vote! (Only 2022 full members who were also full members in 2021 are eligible to vote.)
Best wishes,
Ben Slotman
ESTRO president
