Review of the V International Congress of Medical Imaging and Radiotherapy/ VI Congress of Medical Imaging and Radiotherapy in Portugal

 

The V International Congress of Medical Imaging and Radiotherapy/VI Congress of Medical Imaging and Radiotherapy aimed to promote debate on imaging diagnosis and therapy after the COVID-19 pandemic. It was presented by the graduate course in medical imaging and radiotherapy at Escola Superior Dr Lopes Dias at Instituto Politécnico de Castelo Branco, Portugal, on 26-27 May 2023. I was honoured to be invited to preside over the scientific committee.

 

The theme of the event was "Imaging and therapy in the respiratory system". The meeting was designed to be an opportunity for healthcare professionals, students and teachers in the fields of radiology, radiotherapy and nuclear medicine, and the general public, to discuss the latest trends and advances in the fields of medical imaging and radiotherapy, with consideration of the post-pandemic context.

 

This event was attended by speakers, students, guests, researchers and professionals of national and international merit, including Paolo Brossa, from the ESTRO radiation therapist (RTT) committee, who presented on the subject of "evolution of the radiation therapist: advanced practice, accuracy exchange". We extend our heartfelt thanks to all the speakers for the brilliant presentations.

 

Radiation oncology-related industrial participants and sponsors, such as Elekta (presenting the Monaco treatment planning system), GE HealthCare and ABGT, (presenting Vertual), played an important part, as they promoted technical innovations through showrooms and workshops.

 

I offer special greetings to the students who presented some of their projects. These presentations were a highlight of the conference.
