Biography

Elisa Placidi graduated in Physics in 2007 at “La Sapienza” University of Rome (Italy) with a thesis regarding the in vivo dosimetry for lung radiation treatments. She then moved to Nottingham (UK) for her PhD in Physics at the “Sir Peter Mansfield Magnetic Resonance Centre” of the University of Nottingham, under the supervision of Prof. Gowland. Her PhD thesis developed the Fluorine-19 MRI techniques for the gastrointestinal tract. She then moved back to Rome to complete the residency in Medical Physics at the “Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore” of Rome. Since 2013 she has been working as medical physicist at the Gemelli ART (Advanced Radiation Therapy) Center of the Gemelli University Hospital of Rome, focusing her main area of expertise in radiation therapy planning and brachytherapy, also called interventional radiotherapy. She is involved in a variety of activities including the educational programs about stereotactic treatments and about brachytherapy techniques. She also teaches Computer Science at the “Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore” of Rome.
