Biography

Cecilia Futsaether is a professor of Physics at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU). She has an MSc in applied mathematics from the University of Oslo, Norway, and a PhD in biophysics from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Trondheim, Norway. Her research currently focuses on applications of classical machine learning, deep learning and chemometrics/multivariate statistics in medical diagnostics. Main interests are in automatic segmentation of gross tumour volume using convolutional neural networks and radiomics for prediction of treatment outcome. Use cases include head and neck cancer, anal cancer, rectal cancer, and cervical cancer. She is also interested in method development, in particular feature selection for short-wide datasets with very many features, but very few samples. She is part of the Centre for Healthcare Data Science (CEHEADS) at NMBU.
