Biography

Evert van Limbergen was born in Leuven on 3-jul-1982. He was trained as a Medical Doctor at the University of Leuven (KUL), where he obtained his degree of radiation-oncologist in 2014. The same year, he obtained his PhD in biomedical sciences with a dissertation in molecular biology. Currently, he works at the radiotherapy department 'MAASTRO', closely linked to the Academic Hospital of Maastricht, the Netherlands. Here he works partly as a clinical radiation oncologist, treating gynecological and urological tumors, and as a co-director of the institute. His previous research work focusses on the interaction of radiotherapy and the immune system, as well as on novel irradiation techniques using brachytherapy. He is an active member of the ‘Groupe Européen de Curiethérapie’ and the European SocieTy for Radiotherapy & Oncology (GEC-ESTRO) focussing on the development of brachytherapy techniques for gastrointestinal tumors’ (the GI-GEC working group), and serves as a member of the scientific advisory group of the World Congress of Brachytherapy (WCB). He served ESTRO for several years as a faculty member in ESTRO - FALCON prostate cancer delineation course.
