Patient involvement in radiation oncology
It is increasingly recognised that patient involvement in radiation therapy education and research is of the utmost importance. This session will explore the benefits of such involvement. To begin, ways to involve patients in education will be explored, by looking at patient engagement in education and initiatives regarding course design, student recruitment, teaching, learning and assessment. The next session will look at involvement of patients in their own care, by examining shared-decision making. To conclude, a patient advocate will provide her experience of a diagnosis of head and neck cancer, and subsequently becoming involved in education and outreach work.
